Exercise offers a wide range of proven benefits for people with arthritis, making it a key component of effective arthritis management. Regular physical activity helps enhance joint mobility by keeping joints flexible and maintaining their range of motion, which is often compromised by stiffness and pain.
Wolper’s MoveWell program offers a range of classes that are suitable for people living with arthritis. Each class is effective in addressing common symptoms such as stiffness, limited mobility and muscle weakness.
- AquaMove – water-based classes that use the natural buoyancy of water to reduce stress on joints while exercising. The heated pool helps soothe pain and loosen stiff muscles, making movement easier and more comfortable.
- MoveStrong – ideal for improving strength, flexibility and overall fitness. These classes support joint health and make everyday movements easier.
- MoveSteady – focuses on balance, posture and lower-body strength, this class aims to reduce the need for mobility aids and prevent falls.
Wolper’s AquaMove and MoveStrong classes take place at Wolper Jewish Hospital in Woollahra and at Beresford Hall in Rose Bay.
MoveSteady classes take place at Wolper Jewish Hospital only.

The benefits from water exercise for people with arthritis
According to Parkinson’s NSW, exercise is second only to medication in terms of symptom control, improving quality of life and slowing the progression of the disease.
According to Arthritis Australia water exercise can be beneficial for everyone but is particularly helpful for people:
- With arthritis in several joints as all joints can be exercised at once
- With conditions affecting feet, knees, hips and back
- Preparing for or recovering from joint replacement surgery
- Who find it difficult or painful to exercise on land.
