Wolper’s MoveBig circuit exercise classes are based on the LSVT Big protocol which focuses on high amplitude, big movements in order to improve strength, balance and confidence.

People living with Parkinson’s disease can also benefit from our MoveSteady and MoveStrong classes depending on their initial assessment.

Treatment is provided by an experienced team which includes a Rehabilitation Medicine Physician, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nursing staff, pharmacist and discharge planner.

Facilities include a heated chlorine-free hydrotherapy pool and a fully equipped gym with specific areas for balance and functional strength training.

Improve movement, balance and quality of life with exercise

According to Parkinson’s NSW, exercise is second only to medication in terms of symptom control, improving quality of life and slowing the progression of the disease.

Regular exercise has been shown to

  • Reduce muscle stiffness
  • Improve mobility with better posture, balance and gait
  • Decrease depression and anxiety
  • Enhance memory
  • Reduce fatigue
  • Improve constipation
  • Assist with slowed movement (bradykinesia)
  • Improve speech, and reduce swallowing and drooling
  • Improve writing and fine motor skills

Regular, structured physical activity also supports mental wellbeing by reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Targeted physical activities — such as balance training, resistance exercises, and aerobic workouts — help enhance motor skills by promoting better coordination, muscle strength and flexibility. These exercises can improve mobility by reducing stiffness and improving gait, while also boosting balance and postural control, which are often compromised by Parkinson’s. By strengthening the muscles and refining motor planning, tailored exercise significantly reduces the risk of falls, a major concern for those with the disease.

MoveBig: Wolper’s  MoveWell program designed for Parkinson’s disease

Our MoveBig exercise program is based on the LSVT BIG protocol which is a specialised physical therapy program designed to improve movement and motor function in individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions.

Based on principles of neuroplasticity and motor learning, LSVT BIG focuses on amplifying movement patterns—encouraging patients to perform large, exaggerated motions in daily tasks to counteract the small, slow movements commonly associated with Parkinson’s. The program typically involves intensive, one-on-one sessions four times a week for four weeks, with an emphasis on high-effort, repetitive practice. By recalibrating the brain’s perception of movement size and reinforcing these larger movements, LSVT BIG helps enhance gait, balance and overall functional mobility.

What to Expect from Our Classes
